Is the furry one coming?
I’ve written and re-written this post several times, was too long for my liking and I know once I’m done is gonna be too long but probably not as sad or critical as before because I’ll cover it with my adventure.
Jodi and 2 Brown Dwags have mentioned on previous posts what people do with their dogs when they travel or move them around the city.
As most of you know I’m currently in Seville, I said it was a great place to take your dog with you to bars and restaurants because nobody seems to mind to have a dog around. Those kind of things as a society are great, however, there is a huge issue during summer with dogs being left behind by
their owners. Some lucky dogs are left at parks or restaurants and others not so lucky left in the middle of the high way or tied to a tree at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. It has become so much of a deal that there’s even a campaign called “El nunca lo haria. No lo abandones” which literally means “He would never do it. Do not abandon him”. Stray dogs are not common in here, so it’s very likely that if you see a dog roaming alone it’s because it has been abandoned, specially during summer.
As for me, this year traveling far won’t be happening because Doggy is too little to take him on a long trip and by long I mean going across the ocean, so instead I’m gonna take a week off and walk “El Camino de Santiago” or “The Way of St. James” I’ve asked the vet and he said it’s ok to take Doggy, we’ll do about 100-120 miles in a week. Accommodation and commuting is proving to be a bitch, but we’ll get there somehow.

Leo, would you believe I had no idea you were in Spain? For some reason I thought you were in NY! We have the problem in the states, although I think the majority of people who dump their dogs do it at the pound or a shelter. We still get the stories of people leaving dogs in dumpsters or tied outside when they move. I wonder where the hell compassion went? When did we become a society of disposability?
I get the confusion, I moved from NYC a little over 2 years ago, I often make reference to The City do it’s comprehensible to get confused.
Funny cuz back home I never noticed that, true I was not a dog owner but i’ve always paid close attention to dogs in the street, however, here starting July and all the way till September at least
once a week someone posts on Facebook the pic of a dog they’ve dog they found roaming around the place or office.
Compassion is scarce lately.
That’s very sad.
In my country, there are many-many stray dogs and cats. They are thrown out of the car somewhere on a highway (and often run over by another car), in the woods, or at the gate of an animal shelter. And there are several tortured dogs, beaten to death or having caused serious injuries to them, or simply left to die from hunger. There is also a ‘business’ of stealing puppies and trying to sell them for some cash.
Ohhh boy! Talk about sad, why people do those things will always puzzle me.
I don’t want to live where kolytyi lives!
There is no empathy either for how frightened and panicked an abandoned animal feels. Yes, a hard post to write and hard to see it happening too. So glad Doggy has a good person looking after him.
its really sad that some people can just leave their doggies
But glad to hear you and Doggy have a great trip planned. Looking forward to seeing lots of photos!
When Humom went to Spain, there was lots of little doggies and catties just roaming around, all on there ownSome were really skinny so Humom wanted to bring them all home. I’m only 14 mths now but I can see the world isn’t alway’s rosey!
Next competiton, is going to be a dressing up one, greeat idea.Start picking out your outfit!

I am just catching up. I am afraid we have a lot of abandoned dogs here as well. I wonder if the summer campaign will work? I hope it does. 120 miles in a week doesn’t sound like a vacation to me, (says the person that just spent the better part of hers cleaning her cabin top to bottom…lol).
